A leader’s Journey from skepticism to appreciation

The founder Chairperson of a group of public companies, a visionary leader who built an empire starting from humble beginnings was unsure of the implications of the Board Evaluations mandate. Despite enjoying the trust of his stakeholders and the Board of Directors, he was hesitant about embracing the proposition made by the NRC Chair of his flagship company to introduce a professional and formal approach to conducting Board Evaluation.

His experience with the Company’s Act, driven by the agency paradigm, cast doubts in the utility of this exercise.  After we were engaged, the Board, including the founder chairman appreciated the thrust provided on the stewardship role of the Board by an effective Board Evaluation. What do you do when the Board Evaluation does not yield the desired results despite a well-intentioned questionnaire, The best efforts of the NRC Chairperson and the company secretary seemed to have added to the evaluation fatigue for the directors, with no appreciable benefits. When the Company Secretary approached Fidem, he was at his wits’ end and overwhelmed with work. He hoped that automating the task with Fidem’s Board evaluation platform would help him balance his multiple priorities.
