Zarir Batliwala

Zarir is an independent People Practices consultant focusing on organizational structure, performance management systems, senior management recruitment and executive coaching.

With close to 50 years of experience at the senior leadership level and his functional experience in legal and human resource management, Zarir has a strong exposure to business and leadership and organizational development.

Zarir has been associated with TeamLease Services Ltd, India’s leading staffing and manpower Company since 2010. He consulted with them for 5 years in areas of human resources, organization culture and leadership development. In 2019 he was invited to join the TeamLease Board of Directors as an Independent Director and was appointed as Chairperson of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee in 2020.

Zarir retired as Director, Human Resources for Hewlett-Packard India in November 2009. He was responsible for the delivery of HR programs and services to the 30,000 HP employees across their India sales company and global delivery businesses and led a team of 145 HR professionals.

Zarir started his career in 1972 as a Corporate Counsel and Company Secretary in the Mahindra & Mahindra Group of Companies.  In 1984 he joined Britannia Industries Limited. He was appointed Company Secretary in 1987 and Vice President – Legal in 1990.  In 1992 he took over the responsibility for Human Resources in addition to his legal role.

He joined Digital Equipment (India) Ltd in 1994 as Vice President – Legal and Company Secretary.  In July 1998, post the merger of Digital with Compaq he was appointed as Director, Human Resources and Legal for Compaq India.

In 2002, after the merger of Compaq Computer with Hewlett-Packard, he took over as the Director of Human Resources for HP India.

Zarir is a graduate in Law and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
